Merino and Yak Handwoven Wrap
Since the beginning of my weaving journey, I have made quite a few wraps / shawls but somehow kept only two for myself. And even though I enjoy making for the people I love, I wanted to add another piece to my own collection, so that’s what I did.
I wanted to play with muted greens and other earth tones, so I decided to use my handspun blend of merino and yak, which I have used as weft.
I tend to use commercial yarn as warp and in this case I have used 4ply (fingering) camel fiber in natural color as well as 4ply lambswool in green tweed.
The loom that I use for wraps / shawls is Ashford rigid heddle loom in 80 cm width.
The final dimensions of the wrap came out to be around 80cm x 160cm (plus fringe).
The wrap is so soft and I’m very much looking forward to using it once the weather cools down.
If you’d like to see the making of this wrap / shawl, it is featured in the “Sleepless nights, new yarn, sweater and a shawl” video on my YouTube channel.
